Christin Nichols - new album "Rette Sich, Wer Kann!"

Feminism, hedonism, activism, self-love - Christin Nichols releases captivating new album.

We see it. Sometimes we can't see anything for all the waves, but when the storm calms down, we realize: It was just another doomsday that we survived. That is when we steer the boat into the next harbor. In these moments, you feel infinitely alone. But in the end, in a way: all right. Christin Nichols assures us.

And she should know. It's a bit outrageous what this woman manages to fit into a single life. After all, the Berlin native is not only a musician, but also an actress with television and theater experience, a voice actress and a full-time badass girl who is more than happy to show the stupid system the middle finger with a killer smile. The most wonderful thing about her, however, is that she doesn't pretend that everything always goes perfectly. Nichols' solo debut album "I'm Fine", released in early 2022, was exactly the album that guitar music in Germany desperately needed: mercilessly confident, but always permeable and tender, furious and wistful, full of great melodies and songs that are just as influenced by contemporary internet and pop culture as they are by post-punk and wave. Publications such as Spiegel Online, Zeit Online, Musikexpress, Die Brigitte, Cosmopolitain, Radio 1, Flux FM and many other fantastic media outlets were full of praise, and with every damn right in the world: "Im Fine" blew your tired head free, because you had the feeling that you were listening to a woman who was finding her very own definition of strength.

How powerful (and, sorry: absolutely awesome) it sounds to openly deal with moments of vulnerability she proves with her new songs. Sometimes they sound like new beginnings, sometimes like profound thoughts at 3 a.m., then again they seem to carry over from the days of the "Paisley Underground". Nichols had to be even braver than for her first solo album after her career with Prada Meinhoff, even more daring and uncompromising. The famous magic may be inherent in every beginning, of course, but in the end you really need balls in life, especially for the long haul. Nichols says she had to step out of her comfort zone like never before. Even though it was scary. But: where the fear is, that's where it's at.

Nichols tried on new sounds like garments. And these clothes suit her, the big themes of the album, which are also Nichols' own life themes: Feminism, hedonism, activism. Self-love. This includes listening only to yourself, trusting your own ideas. However, Nichols, who knows how to create a kind of natural force field around herself on every stage and in every bar, is of course never completely alone. She collaborated once again with Stefan Ernst, with Simeon Cöster from Isolation Berlin on drums. There was also a feature with Olli Schulz. This will be on his album.

At Nichols' concerts, you can see how beautiful a world could look in which everyone shakes the foundations of the patriarchy together with a beer, a smoke and a lot of love. Each of her live shows is a big, glittering party of solidarity, her new album feels like an evening with your best friend when you need it most: warming, honest. Wildly fun and deeply sad. When the end of the world is over, Nichols takes everyone on her boat who wants to come along for the ride. Maybe you don't even need a safe harbor, but simply travel on together. Always in search of answers that you don't actually need. Because everything is already there.
